The Day the Earth Stood Still...

No longer just the title of a movie.  Today was a really different day for the Federockos.  We had two very landmark, red-letter day-type occurrences.  Here they are, in no particular order of significance:

  1. I purchased a scale.
  2. Husband won $103 with his Powerball ticket.
A little background information is helpful here.  I have a long and colored history when it comes to the scale.
I am almost 34 years old and I've managed to not only never purchase one, but to never live in the
same house as one since I was a junior in college. I have not wanted to own one because of my old
propensity to step on it something like 30 or 40 times a day. I can also say in all honesty that the numbers
on a scale don't mean a whole lot to me. I worry more about how I feel. Now however, we have decided that
we are embarking on our own version of "Biggest Loser Couples". Sure, we don't have nearly as
much to lose (he wants to lose 13 and I want to lose 5), but in order to do it right we needed a scale.
Up to this point, I've just been weighing myself at my aunt and uncle's house, and 9 times out of 10
that is after some sort of family gathering with lots of food and beverages (probably not the ideal
time to weigh oneself).

As for Husband, he has been buying a lottery ticket with some regularity for a very long time now - almost 20 years.
He has never won more than $11 up to this point. He has so much faith in the whole process though -
a process that brings out the cynic in me. He purchases each ticket firmly believing that he has a chance of
winning (at least as much of a chance as the next guy). I love that about him. My response to his win was to
tell him that the Powerball people finally took notice of how long he'd been playing without a payout, and
decided to toss a little something his way to keep him coming back. He assured me "it doesn't work like that."

Well, I'm off to go weigh myself before going to bed. Since I've never had the luxury of doing this
before, I'm running a little experiment to see how my weight fluctuates throughout the day. Besides,
stepping on and off the scale today has surely provided some much-needed exercise, right?
