I'm tired of commercialized America trying to rush me through life. Yesterday, I was at Target and as I walked past the outdoor summer section, I noticed that all the grills and outdoor accouterments were gone, and the patio furniture was being liquidated at a discount. Guess what was starting to take its place? School supplies! They were just starting to stock three aisles with all of the things our kids will need for school in August! What is the deal? I feel like summer just started.

It's this same mentality that has caused me to start parking my car and walking into Starbucks lately, instead of going through the drive-thru. I just feel like everything around me is trying to force me to go super-speed and I don't want to. I think that's why this past weekend was such a breath of fresh air. For probably the first time since we moved into our house (almost 4 years ago), Stephen and I found ourselves lounging in the living room on a Saturday afternoon, arms slung over the sides of the couch and chair having the following conversation:

"What do you want to do?"
"I don't know, what do you want to do?"
"I don't know...well, what do you want to do for dinner?"
"I don't know, what do you want to do for dinner?"
"Oh, anything, something easy."

You get the idea. It felt downright decadent. We actually stopped in the middle of the exchange and laughed because it felt so good to have nowhere to be rushing to and nothing we had to do. We finally settled on Papa Murphy's and a family movie night.

We have 15 days until we leave for vacation (Husband is counting, he knows how many minutes are left). When we get back there will only be a couple of weeks before school starts for me and then Kirby. Before we get whisked into the hustle and bustle of the next year I plan to sit and enjoy the smell of the fields around my house and of fresh-cut grass. I am going to go on bike rides with my family and take my kids to the park more. Oh - and did I mention - I'm going to sleep in. Because I finally can.

Amen! ( I found your blog through Laurel's) I went to walmart and my friend asked me to get water wings for her son... and the swim stuff was stuffed in the corner, almost gone, while the school stuff was taking over! I refuse to buy school supplies until a few days before school starts and we get our supply list!!!
