Being a registered Independent during an election like this one isn't easy. Personally, I'm just sick and tired of all of the phone calls (thankfully, the campaigners haven't seemed to find our front door on this election). Stephen and I are both registered independent, so it's like we have a big "X" on our house (signifying, apparently, that we can't make up our minds?). 3 out of 4 messages on our answering machine are pre-recorded political calls. We hate even answering the phone after 5pm, because it's campaigners. If you don't answer, your number just goes back into their automatic dialer, so it doesn't do any good. Stephen's new tactic is to tell Obama's peep's that we're voting for him, and McCain's that we're voting for him. It gets them off the phone pretty quickly.
Seriously, do these phone calls really change people's minds? I guess they must, for campaigns to spend this much money on them. I think it's a really creepy way to get voters - especially the pre-recorded messages. It feels like a political molestation. Is anyone else having the same problem?

At first I was worried that the title might be referring to me! :0) We, too, are getting the political phone calls. I just hang up. My favorite Seinfeld was when the telemarketer called and he said, "I'm busy right now. Can I get your home phone number and call you back?...What? You don't like people calling you at home? Now you know how I feel." Brilliant. Of course you can't use that with a recording. But I still think of it everytime.
