A New Look For a New Year

In case you haven't noticed, I've got a new look for my journey's blog. Inspired by my friend Michelle, who (as I tell her) changes the look of her blog as often as I change my underwear, I decided it was time to update. I've been blogging for over a year now, and it's time for a snappy new look. It's only incidental that I also happened to get a haircut today giving me a new look, hopefully bringing me into the 21st century.

Here's the thing about where I get my hair cut: It's a bit
over my head, fashion-wise. When I step through the door in my "mom jeans", I look about as out of my element as Patrick Dempsey at the prom in "Can't Buy Me Love". I started going there because Lisa, who cuts my hair, has a daughter in Connor's class. Let's just get this straight: Lisa was one of the cool kids in high school. She doesn't have to worry that the haircut she gets might just out-class her wardrobe (a frequent problem of mine). Fortunately, she's got a personality that knows no bounds, and she doesn't seem to notice my lack of style. I'm not sure I can say the same for the bald gentleman cutting hair three chairs down, who wore a black blazer with no shirt, about 40 pounds of pearl necklaces at varied lengths, and a rhinestone belt buckle the size of a cantaloupe.

Why am I even bothering to blog about this? I just think it's funny where life takes us. It's comforting to drive my middle-class mini-van down the street of my average suburb to the home that I love where a handsome husband who is more concerned about how we will spend Saturday together as a family, than whether or not we drive the newest car, is waiting for me with my kids in hand-me-down cowboy boots who need haircuts. Yes, it's fun to peek into
the lifestyles of the hip and not-so-famous, but I wouldn't trade my life for anything.

Scarlett Salon - I highly recommend it!

No kidding. Happiness never can from things, can it? And so many people search for it there. I love my average life because of all the good people who are in it. You included! Now I need to see a picture of the new do!

P.S. I will be giggling throughout the day at your description of the vested wonder. Pearls? C'mon!

I'm with Laurel! I have tried over the years to make myself happy with food...jewelry...clothes...pretty furniture...you name it. It NEVER worked. It usually caused a very quick backlash of self hatred! My precious husband and beautiful children are gifts from God and a reminder that all good things come from HIM!
That said...I love a good haircut. I don't believe that it provides any long-term happiness...but it sure feels good for a while. I would love to see the 2009 version of Jennifer. Pictures please!!!!!
