Making Music Again

Last night I sang with my old band up in Summit County, where we used to live. I've had a long hiatus - over a year - and I can't explain how good it felt to be back with the great musicians that I've been involved with for the past 10 years. To top it off, Husband got to come to the event with me! His parents are in town for Thanksgiving, and they stayed at the condo with the boys so that we could go together. I enjoyed singing, and he enjoyed catching up with some of our friends. Really, the night was perfect - the band was "on", the crowd was fun, we got a date night, and capped off the evening at our friends' house with a nice bottle of wine.

I'd be lying if I told you that I hate the attention I get when I sing. Anyone who knows me well knows that I don't shy away from the limelight. I have experienced mostly gracious audiences, and I so love getting to talk to the people I meet and connect over music. Last night was no exception. I especially got a kick out of one particular gentleman who came up to me during a break. He first graced me with the compliment, "You're obviously classically trained" (any classically trained singer appreciates that one). He then continued, with great enthusiasm, "You're younger than you look on stage!". Hmmm...maybe he meant that I'm younger than I sound on stage? Or, maybe I look really "hard" (as my mom would say) on stage, and have a softer look in person? Or is it just that I look old, period; but not as old as I look on stage? Regardless, it was a good time. The best was having someone to sing all of those torch songs to - my very favorite audience member, my husband.
