Landmarks Along the Way

Last week, I passed two milestones on this journey of mine. First, I passed my Special Education licensure exam. While fellow students like to make each other feel better by saying "Oh, it's easy, don't worry about it!", I did not find it particularly easy. It was 100 multiple choice questions, and each question had 5 possible answers - all of which were "right". I had to determine which of the five correct answers would be the first thing I should do or consider. While this definitely wasn't as hard as the GRE I took and foreswore 12 years ago, it certainly wasn't as easy as the general licensure test.

Additionally, I was a co-presenter at the Colorado Affective Needs conference last week. I was honored that one of my favorite professors asked me to co-present with her last summer, and it's been hanging over my head ever since. I researched and presented about 10 minutes worth of material on using mentors for gifted students with Asperger Syndrome. I consider it a success, as I had three or four good questions that came out of it, and a teacher who thanked me for giving her an idea to use on a student she's been having a difficult time with. Honestly, I'm just glad it's over and now I have something good to put on my resume - which I need to seriously get working on!

So - two less things are hanging over my head now, and as my mother-in-law reminded me yesterday, the two years that seemed to stretch and loom ahead of me are almost over.

Bravo, bravo, bravo, my friend! It feels so good to get heavy things out of the way, and I KNOW you did a great job in presenting. You are a terrific speaker and so personable. Wish I could have heard it myself. You're amazing!
