The Six Fastest Years of My Life...

Last week, Kirby turned 6 (February 25, to be exact). And, if I was a bit more on the ball, I would have written a post to him telling him just how much that birthday means to me. It was Kirby's tough break that his birthday fell on Ash Wednesday, and I'm so proud of how he handled it. He had a choice to take pencils in as treats on his actual birthday, or treats in the day before. He chose treats the day before. He told me this way it was like he got three birthdays - one on Tuesday, his real one on Wednesday (when he chose pancakes for his meatless birthday dinner) and his party on Saturday. So, here is Kirby's 6th birthday entry:

Kirby, I am so proud of you every single day of my life. When I look at the little boy you've become, it's hard not to think about where you started (besides the obvious - in my womb). I will never forget how devastated I was when my brand new baby was whisked away from me, down the mountain to Denver, fully intubated on a respirator, before I could even hold him. Six years ago today, you were still on a feeding tube and were still in the NICU. You amazed the doctors at how quickly your little body got itself better, and since then, you've never quit. Your smile every morning makes me light up inside. I love your boy energy. I even love the scary things, like jumping off high places and climbing tall things. I love the way you hug and kiss your Daddy and the way you take care of your little brother. I'm proud of how you are friends with everyone in your class, and I'm excited to see you at the end of every day. Your 6th birthday party was one of my favorite days ever. Seeing you skate with all your heart, and your excitement at being with your friends. Your Dad and I both had a wonderful time watching you, your brother and your friends have so much fun. I hope you realize how loved you are...your aunts, uncles and cousin all came to be with you, and even your Nana skated with you.

Thank you my sweet little monkey for all the joy you've brought to my life. You are loved more than you can imagine!
