I've found that the older I get, the better I know myself. One thing I know is that I have a propensity for anxiety (maybe you've picked up on that by now). I also know that I generally know what kind of things I need to do to "talk myself down", so to speak. Yesterday was a day filled with anxiety for me. I got very little sleep the night before, and that is always a catalyst for me. I pretty much spent the day defeating myself..."I'll never find a job...how will I pay back my student loans...how will I ever get all my work done...". You get the point. It was pathetic.
Fortunately, I had a haircut scheduled yesterday. "What do you want?" Lisa asked me as I sat down in her chair. "Make me look younger," I said. It just so happens that my salon is right next to my favorite ice cream stand. So, one hour later I crossed the street to my van, my hair swinging by my face in a perky new style, licking a coconut almond fudge cone. Happy as a lark.
Thank you Lord, for small pleasures.
